athenson.gr is your very own channel to watch and tell the stories of Athens: 8 plus 2 films, 100 pictures and a long list of ever-refreshing UGC (Instagram) that guide you through the unique intense & relaxing moments of the city.

A fresh digital channel for the promotion of true, authentic and surprising Athens
The goal

We worked for SETE on behalf of City of Athens and This is Athens in order to create a multichannel experience that works across all screens. The primary target was European Millennials. The goal was to present a fresh digital channel for the promotion of true, authentic and surprising Athens as a city break destination, emphasizing the multitude of experiences a visitor can have.

Our approach was to build a beautifully designed platform that could act both as a campaign / marketing vehicle, as well as a hub of ever-green content for the city of Athens.

We decided to do things differently. Instead of the usual presentation of tourism verticals such as gastronomy, art, etc., we decided to go with presenting an actual day (24h) in Athens, through 2 “lenses”: intense & relax. That way, each visitor would be able to experience the real Athens according to his very own style and preferences.

We crafted a brand-new identity (Athens ON) and designed a modern website, focusing on mobile use and utilizing the latest developments in web design and frontend development.  The design leverages high-quality photography and flat elements, offering a simple and intuitive experiences for the visitors. Although design with mobile access in mind, it’s fully responsive and offers a seamless browsing experience. The same approach was used throughout the website and its content: high-quality, modern-cinematography videos (fast pace, timelapses, GoPro takes, custom sound design with natural sounds) which can be easily viewed and shared without leaving the website environment, pictures are presented on all devices using parallax-scrolling and the content that the users share on Instagram with the hashtag #AthensOn is integrated within the website so that the visitors aren’t obstructed by switching between online environments. The result is a online platform that looks as good as being used by users of any level and experience; just like casually going through the best magazine that’s ever been created for Athens.
